s it possible that electronic toys for infants that light up, talk, sing, make sounds and play music could interfere with learning?   

Importance  The early language environment of a child influences language outcome, which in turn affects reading and academic success. It is unknown which types of everyday activities promote the best language environment for children.

Objective  To investigate whether the type of toy used during play is associated with the parent-infant communicative interaction.

This week, we're exploring the tech frontier through the eyes of our children. So we're starting with the littlest ones — babies. Can certain kinds of screen time help babies learn?

Take a bath together.  Feel nervous about handling a slippery newborn in the sink with a hand held sprayer, baby shampoo, washcloth and baby tub?  Consider drawing a warm bath, place your newborn on your lap and use the time as a rich bonding experience.
